White Station ROTC officer wins top scholarship

Rep. Leonard Hughes to Highlight Freedom Scholarship Dinner
WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Leonard Hughes will be the keynote speaker at the annual Freedom Scholarship Dinner at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16 in the UCM Multipurpose Building. The dinner will highlight the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration planned for the UCM campus and surrounding community Jan. 10-24. Hughes is the youngest legislator in the Missouri House of Representatives. Born and raised in Kansas City, Hughes studied American Studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and he is the chief executive officer of Abravax, Inc., and the president of Young Freedom and a member of the board of directors of Freedom, Inc. Hughes also serves as vice president of the Young Democrats of Kansas City, chair of the Minority State Caucus of the Young Democrats, and a member of the NAACP. He was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2004, where he currently is a member of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus.

I'm one of the late students for looking at scholarships and right now I'm scrambling to catch up. So I just thought it would be nice to post some helpful things I've found out for others who are looking at Colleges/Universities.FASFA - if you've never heard this before you should defiantly look it up. It's the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. FASFA is a need based grant/scholarship that the government provides. You can fill out the app. online and from the form your EFC (Expected Family Contribution) is calculated. That is related to how much money you are eligible for. When I went to Cornish, they said the form takes the same information as taxes, so when your parents have their tax info out, just sit down with them and fill that baby out.FastWeb.com - Defiantly check this site out.

Sierra High cross country/track coach Lisa Shrock was selected as one of the Sac-Joaquin Section's six model coaches for the 2005-06 season. "It is an honor because it's a nomination that came from my athletes, and without them it wouldn't have been possible," Shrock said. She's also been chosen as one of two model coaches in the section honored by the California Interscholastic Federation, along with Bear River High boys basketball coach Jack McCrory. Shrock guided the Timberwolves to two section titles and the school's track program to four section crowns. The award is based on good sportsmanship, dedication to athletes and being a good role model. Shrock and the five winners will be honored by the SJS at the Dale Lacky student-athlete scholarship awards breakfast on April 17 at Elkhorn Country Club.
His Ohio high school plans scholarship honoring Schembechle
BARBERTON, Ohio The Akron area high school he attended is creating a scholarship to honor Bo Schembechler (SHEHM'-behk-lur). Barberton High School says the community suffered a great loss when the University of Michigan's former football coach died on Friday. He was born in Barberton in 1929. The Schembechler Leadership Scholarship won't be the school's only tribute to its celebrated graduate. It also wants to name its front drive "Bo Schembechler Way." Copyright 2006 Associated Press. Purnell appointed FIA technical consultant
Tony Purnell, the former team principal of the Jaguar Racing and Red Bull Racing Formula One teams, has been appointed as a Technical Consultant to the FIA.
