McKague’s batting skills lead to scholarship to Army
UNC-Asheville offered McKague a scholarship that would have paid his tuition. Wake Forest, the Naval Academy and Gardner-Webb were showing interest. “West Point contacted me the first week of July,” he said. “They saw me at the State Games, when I had a good tournament, and said they saw me as a corner infielder and pitcher.” Army coaches kept in touch for the next three months, then invited McKague for an official visit. Kevin, his sister, Meredith, and their parents, Bob and Melanie McKague, traveled to West Point the last weekend in September. While there, a full scholarship was offered. “The head coach, Joe Sottolano, told me I would have a good chance of coming in and starting as a freshman,” McKague said.

Gonzalez Lifetime Achievement Award and Charles Garcia with the Henry B. Gonzalez Public Service and Integrity Award. The Henry B. Gonzalez Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed on Ms. Dolores Huerta one of the most powerful and respected labor movement leaders in the country. In 1955, Huerta co-founded the Sacramento chapter of the Community Service Organization, and in 1960 co-founded the Agricultural Workers Association. Huerta then co-founded the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez in 1962. While raising her 11 children she negotiated contracts with growers, lobbied Congress, organized strikes and boycotts, and spearheaded farm worker political activities that successfully led to unemployment insurance, collective bargaining rights, and immigration rights for migrant farmers.
Egypt offers scholarships to Antiguan students
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer has announced that his government has received support from the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt in its quest to educate the people of Antigua and Barbuda. “Today, the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt confirmed that they have allocated three post or under-graduate scholarships for Antiguan and Barbudan students to study in Egypt commencing in September 2007. Because of our excellent relations, they have also pledged to double the number of scholarships offered for the 2008 Academic year," Prime Minister Spencer stated. The scholarships being offered by Egypt are available in: finance and planning, international banking, special education, medicine, public health, information technology, accounting, engineering, communications, nursing, mathematics and music.
Willis claims Lambert Award
COLUMBUS, OHIO Ole Miss linebacker Patrick Willis picked up another national award on Monday when he was named the recipient of the Jack Lambert Award, which is presented by the Touchdown Club of Columbus to college football's top linebacker. Willis, a senior from Bruceton, Tenn., led the Southeastern Conference for the second straight year in tackles with 137. Last year's Lambert winner was Ohio State senior A.J. Hawk, currently with the Green Bay Packers. The award will be presented to Willis during the 52nd Touchdown Club of Columbus banquet on Saturday, Feb. 10. Willis, who earlier received the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker, picked up another first-team All-America honor when he was recognized by ESPN.com. He had previously been honored by The Associated Press, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, The Sporting News, the Football Writers' Association of America, Pro Football Weekly, The Gridiron Gazette, SI.com, CBSSportsline.com, Rivals.com and Scout.com.
