LSUS Foundation provides $15,000 for scholarships

The LSUS Foundation has given $15,000 in matching funds for two endowed scholarships that benefit the university's students, the Earl Gray and Dorothy Adams McCalla Endowed Scholarship in Education and the Kathie Giddings Troquille Memorial Scholarship.

Sandra A. McCalla, principal of Captain Shreve High School, recently increased the endowment of the scholarship she established in the names of her parents. The LSUS Foundation provided $5,000 in matching funds to increase the endowment to $25,000, a release from the school says.

M.J. Giddings Jr. recently endowed the Troquille Memorial Scholarship, which was originally established as an annual scholarship in June 2005. The LSUS Foundations $10,000 match doubled the endowment, to $20,000.

The McCalla Scholarship, established in December 2005, will assist a graduate student pursuing a Master of Education degree or graduate certification in the College of Education and Human Development with an emphasis in secondary education or gifted certification at the secondary level.

A Remorseful Queen Plays the Trump Card

NEW YORK, Dec. 19 -- Donald Trump's business acumen and net worth have been fervently debated for as long as he and his inexplicable hairdo have preoccupied this city. But there can be little question about the guy's hunches as a publicity-ravenous egomaniac and preening huckster. In that department, the man is an artist -- and Tuesday, quite frankly, he made his masterpiece.

Amid a cascade of camera flashes and surrounded by the "Inside Edition" branch of America's media family, Mr. You're Fired granted a dramatic reprieve to Tara Conner, the Miss USA crowned in April who had imperiled her reign after reports that she'd failed a drug test and been caught drinking while underage at various Manhattan nightspots. For a few days there it looked as though Ms. Conner and her sparkly tiara were about to part ways.
