POINSETTIA BOWL NOTES: Snead completes visits, says TCU still in running

SAN DIEGO -- Former University of Texas quarterback Jevan Snead returned to Texas on Sunday after a three-day tour of Houston and Mississippi, and he said TCU remains in contention as he decides where he wants to transfer.

Snead was in Houston on Thursday and went to Oxford, Miss., on Friday and Saturday. The Rebels' coaching staff, led by Ed Orgeron, left a favorable impression on Snead.

"I just wanted to get a feel for the coaches, take a look at the offense, and get a feel for the quarterbacks they have," said Snead, who was released from his Texas scholarship Dec. 1. "I liked what I saw. They have very high-energy coaches, and they know what they're talking about."

Snead said he does not have a favorite among the three schools he is considering.

Watseka student wins scholarship

Watseka High School student Matt Cook was awarded with the Eberhart/Allegretti scholarship on Friday.

The scholarship is named after former Watseka football players Ross Eberhart and Tony Allegretti and awards $1,000 to the scholarship winner.

This is the third year the scholarship has been awarded and the only real qualification is that the recipient must be a Watseka offensive or defensive lineman.

Cook was caught completely off guard as he didn't even know he was nominated for this scholarship.

"I'm really excited," Cook said. "I had no idea about the award."

Watseka athletic director Rich Dickte said that the scholarship is just for the recipients next phase of life and doesn't have to be used for college, although that is where Cook plans to use it.
